Since their first participation in 2018, the Ospina family has earned eight distinct winning lots in the esteemed Cup of Excellence competition. Their deep expertise in coffee cultivation and processing allows them to consistently produce clean, sweet, and flavorful coffees with each harvest. Lino has been responsible for the majority of these award-winning lots.

The partnership between Idle Hands and Linarco has flourished since Idle Hands was founded in 2021. Through continuous trade, visits, and regular communication, our relationship has only grown stronger. During our most recent visit, Linarco asked what we were looking for in the upcoming harvest. We inquired about a straight lot of Chiroso, and he suggested processing it as a washed.

Bourbon Chiroso is an Arabica coffee variety grown in Colombia, known for its unique and vibrant flavor profile. Although it was discovered around the same time as Pink Bourbon, another rediscovered Arabica variety in Colombia, Chiroso remains a rare and highly prized coffee among specialty producers.

Chiroso is considered a native Colombian variety of Geisha, offering a well-balanced cup with a fruity flavor profile. Its tasting notes often include jasmine and mandarin aromas, with a delicate floral complexity that makes it stand out.

Thanks to its exceptional cup quality and growing recognition, Chiroso is becoming increasingly popular among coffee enthusiasts and is highly sought after in the specialty coffee market.

About Linarco Rodriguez Ospina

Linarco Rodriguez Ospina is part of a family of seven siblings—three sisters and four brothers. They represent the third generation of coffee producers in their family. Their grandfather began cultivating coffee in the region over 80 years ago, and after his passing, the land was passed down to their parents, who later entrusted it to their seven children, ensuring the continuation of the family’s coffee-growing tradition.

Linarco is widely recognized for his dedication to specialty coffee. He has devoted himself to experimenting with different processing methods and coffee varieties, adding exceptional value to his coffees.

Through various fermentation techniques, the family has successfully crafted distinct cup profiles, including natural anaerobic, honey, and traditional washed processes. These methods allow them to develop complex and competitive flavor profiles that stand out in the highly demanding specialty coffee market.
