Migoti Coffee originates from Migoti Mountain, named after a local indigenous tree in the Mutambu Commune of Bujumbura Province, Burundi. The Migoti Coffee Company built its first coffee washing station here in 2016, partnering with local farmers who supply the coffee cherries directly to the station.
Burundi’s unique climate, with elevations between 1500-2000 meters and fertile soil, is ideal for producing high-quality Arabica Bourbon coffee. Known for its sweet, floral, and citrus flavors, Burundi’s coffee is widely celebrated, with Migoti producing over 300 tons of green coffee annually since 2017.
At the washing station, a team of 10 permanent staff and 250 seasonal workers, led by Zephyrin Banzubaze, ensure meticulous processing—from cherry selection to drying and milling. Most of the workforce, primarily women, manage the drying process to maintain quality. Migoti also empowers farmers by offering education on sustainable farming practices to boost yields and improve coffee quality.
Migoti’s commitment to community and quality has earned it top cupping scores, making it one of the best specialty coffees from Burundi.
